Ports advised to revert to normal security level

An Advisory issued by the Directorate General of Shipping dated May 8, 2025, had directed all ports, terminals and Indian-flagged vessels to elevate their security to MARSEC Level 2 in light of perceived threats. Following the review and assessment by the competent authorities, it has been decided that all port facilities may revert to Maritime Security Level.

All ports, terminals, shipyards and Indian-flagged vessels operating in or near the Indian Subcontinent and neighbouring regions have been instructed to revert to security levels maintained prior to the DGS advisory dated May 6 and May 8, 2025, informed a communique. It is also advised that any ports or terminals may maintain MARSEC Level 2 due to threat perception and advice of Port Facility Security Advisory Committee (PFSAC). However, if required, they may go back to MARSEC Level 1 at any time, depending on their threat perception.

All Port Facility Officers (PFSOs) and Ship Security Officers (SSOs) are to ensure that normal security protocols, as outlined in their respective Port Facility Security Plans (PFSPs) and Ship Security Plans (SSPs), are reinstated. While reverting to normal security protocols, continued monitoring, situational awareness and coordination with local law enforcement is advised, said a Directorate General of Shipping Advisory.
