Rolling stock manufacturer Titagarh Rail Systems plans to construct a greenfield shipyard capable of building large vessels, both naval and commercial, as the company sees the shipbuilding business as one of its future growth drivers. The company is likely to finalise a location for the new shipyard in the coming months. It is scouting for a site in states like West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat with their respective industrial policies being a key consideration in the decision-making process. This expansion underscores Titagarh’s commitment to establishing a strong presence in the shipbuilding and maritime sector, mirroring its success in the railway industry. The company has been building ships at its yard in Kolkata for nearly a decade now, but in a small way, as per a report.
