In exercise of the powers conferred by section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act,
2016 (11 of 2016) and in the supersession of the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020,
published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii), dated 19
th
February, 2020
vide notification number S.O. 756(E), dated the 14
th
February, 2020 except as respects things done or omitted to
be done before such supersession, the Central Government being of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient
so to do in the public interest and after consulting the Bureau, hereby makes the following order, namely:-
1. Short title, commencement and application. (1) This order may be called the Steel and Steel Products
(Quality Control) Order, 2020.
(2) Save as otherwise provided in this order, it shall come into force on the date of its publication in
the Official Gazette.

(3) It shall apply to steel and steel products specified in column (3) of Table 1 and goods and articles
specified in column (2) of Table 2 except steel and steel products manufactured domestically for
export which conform to any other specification required by a foreign buyer.
2. Conformity to standards and essential requirements.- (a) Every steel and steel product specified in
column (3) of Table 1 shall conform to the corresponding Indian standards specified in column (2) of
the said Table with effect from the dates specified in column (5) thereof.
(b) Stainless steel pipes and tubes specified in column (2), at Sl. No. 2 of Table 2 shall be made from
the stainless steel products specified in column (3) of Table 1 conforming to Indian Standards specified
in column (2) of Table 1, bearing Standard Mark and shall be accompanied with the test certificate of
input material.
(c) Goods or articles, specified in column (2) of Table 2, at Sl. No. 1, shall conform to the
corresponding essential requirement specified in column (3) of the said Table under a Certificate of
Conformity from the Bureau as per SchemeIV of ScheduleII of the Bureau of Indian Standards
(Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
3. Compulsory use of Standard Mark.- Every steel and steel products specified in column (3) of Table 1
shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau as per SchemeI of ScheduleII of the
Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
4. Certification and enforcement authority.- The Bureau shall be the certifying and enforcing authority in
respect of the steel and steel products, goods and articles specified in this order.
5. Penalty for contravention. - Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this order shall be
punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
6. Date of effect of amendment or revision in Indian Standards. - This order shall apply to any amendment
or revision made by the Bureau to any of the Indian Standards specified in Table 1 with effect from the
date notified by the Bureau in this behalf.
