RNC: It is a component of the UMTS radio access network, responsible for controlling multiple NodeB (Node B) base stations. The RNC manages the radio resources and handovers and performs tasks like encryption and decryption of user data. Together, the BSC and RNC play critical roles in ensuring seamless connectivity, efficient resource allocation, and the delivery of reliable voice and data services in mobile networks. With the evolution of mobile technologies towards 4G LTE and 5G, some of these functionalities are integrated into evolved network elements, such as the eNodeB and the Next Generation NodeB (gNB), within the broader architecture of the Evolved Packet Core (EPC).
